The surf spots and big beaches of Crozon
The Crozon peninsula is one of Brittany's great surfing destinations. Facing due west, its coast catches the Atlantic swell on wide sandy beaches where supervised beginners and seasoned surfers alike find their bliss — all just a few minutes from the house.
A coast made for surfing
Facing the ocean, the beaches along the west coast of Crozon pick up steady, powerful waves. This is what has earned the peninsula its reputation among surfers, bodyboarders and stand-up paddle enthusiasts. Kersiguenou beach, at the foot of the house, is itself a lovely spot.
The must-surf spots
La Palue
The great beach of La Palue is one of the most renowned spots in Brittany, prized by experienced surfers for its consistent waves. Long and wild, with no development, it offers a magnificent setting — but swimming here is known to be dangerous (currents, rip currents): it is reserved for expert surfers.
Lostmarc'h
Neighbouring La Palue, Lostmarc'h beach charms with its backdrop of heathland and dunes, overlooked by a headland and its megalithic site. A fine spot, though it too is subject to currents.
Goulien
Goulien beach is another gathering place for the peninsula's surfers, with a broad expanse of sand at low tide.
Kersiguenou
A stone's throw from Ty Ar Mor, Kersiguenou lets you surf without taking the car, in a more intimate setting.
Getting started and surfing safely
Several surf schools on the peninsula offer lessons and equipment hire, run by instructors who know the spots and the conditions. Whatever your level, a few rules apply on this coast:
- Check the swell, wind and tides before getting in the water.
- Beware of currents and rip currents; don't overestimate your ability.
- Favour supervised beaches in summer for family swimming.
- Start out with a school rather than on your own.
